Position Overview
We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller to serve as the financial backbone of an established organization. This is a "working" leadership role in a lean, close-knit team environment, initially starting as a temporary position with the potential to transition into a permanent Director of Finance role. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable overseeing high-level financial strategy and stepping in to execute daily transactional work in AR, AP, and payroll.

We are seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller to serve as the financial backbone of an established organization. The successful candidate will be equally comfortable overseeing high-level financial strategy and stepping in to execute daily transactional work in AR, AP, and payroll.
Key Responsibilities

Financial Management & Reporting: Own the end-to-end financial function, including general ledger activities and monthly, quarterly, and annual closings. Prepare GAAP-compliant financial statements and support board-level reporting.

Operational Accounting: Directly perform and supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and payroll processing. This role requires a candidate who is willing to execute transactional tasks alongside supervisory duties.

Strategic Analysis: Lead budgeting, forecasting, and KPI analysis to inform business decisions. Evaluate potential acquisitions and investment opportunities through financial due diligence and valuation analysis.

Leadership & HR Oversight: Provide mentorship and performance management for accounting staff. Oversee HR administrative functions, including benefits enrollment, insurance reporting, and onboarding coordination.

Compliance & Audit: Lead the preparation for annual audits and coordinate with external auditors. Ensure proper recordkeeping, manage insurance and bonding, and maintain rigorous internal controls.

Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with executive leadership and other departments to support strategic planning and business operations.
Required Skills & Abilities

Hands-on Proficiency: Expert-level ability to perform transactional accounting (AR, AP, payroll) within a small-company environment.

Analytical Thinking: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to conduct complex financial research and due diligence for mergers and acquisitions.

Software Expertise: Proficiency in accounting software and advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Familiarity with Sage 300, QuickBooks, Microsoft Access, Power BI, or Crystal Reports is highly valued.

Communication: Clear and confident communicator with the ability to present financial data to leadership and external stakeholders with professionalism and discretion.

Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of GAAP, internal controls, and industry-specific regulatory requirements.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

Experience: * Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience.

Minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

Prior experience supporting external audits is highly preferred.

Certifications: CPA or CMA certification is preferred, though equivalent senior-level experience will be considered.

Location: This is a 100% in-office position located in Anchorage, AK. Remote or hybrid arrangements are not available.
