Swing Shift Welding Inspector
Job Description
Job Title: Swing Shift Welding Inspector
Location: Tigard, OR
Pay: DOE
Schedule: Swing Shift; Monday-Thursday 4:30pm-2:30am
Who We Are:
We are a nationally recognized, AISC-certified structural steel fabricator specializing in the delivery of highly complex bridge, building, and infrastructure projects. Our portfolio spans signature bridges, stadiums, transportation systems, healthcare facilities, and large-scale commercial developments. We are defined by precision craftsmanship, advanced technical capability, and an uncompromising commitment to safety, quality, and excellence in execution.
What You’ll Do:
This role is ideal for a current CWI or a motivated individual with a strong foundation in structural steel inspection and a desire to grow into a highly skilled inspector.
Candidates with UT Level II experience are encouraged to apply! MT certification is a plus, but not required—training and certification will be provided for the right individual. A CWI is ideal; however, if a candidate is on track or ready to obtain their CWI, support will be provided to achieve certification.
This is a focused, smaller QC group, allowing for a more manageable workload and strong hands-on development. The expectation is capability and technical aptitude—if the core skills are there, the team will invest in training and advancement.
In this role, you will perform dimensional inspections and ultrasonic testing, support weld quality verification, and ensure compliance with AWS D1.1, D1.5, and D1.8 standards. You’ll also work closely with fabrication teams to maintain quality across production without being overwhelmed by volume, allowing for precision and attention to detail to stay at the forefront.

- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is a plus, but not required.
- Perform dimensional inspections and verify fabricated components meet project tolerances and specifications.
- Verify inspections conform to AWS codes, project specifications, and approved inspection plans.
- Verify materials, weld joint preparations, and WPS compliance per project requirements.
- Confirm material traceability markings including heat numbers, PO numbers, job numbers, grades, and sizes.
- Maintain welder qualification records and assist with performance qualifications as needed.
- Verify production processes adhere to approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs).
- Document inspection results and maintain traceable quality records.
- Identify and document Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and maintain related logs.
- Maintain inspection logs, trackers, and calibration records for tools and gauges.
- Assist in preparing Requests for Information (RFIs) related to weld or inspection issues.
- Review and interpret shop drawings, specifications, and special provisions from DOT and other clients.
- Participate in project-specific hold points, audits, and internal surveillance activities.
- Coordinate with fabrication, welding, project management, and third-party inspectors to support production and compliance.
- Support continuous improvement of QC processes and adherence to AISC Quality Management System requirements.
- Access to a direct company physician at no additional cost
- Dental and vision insurance fully covered
- Company contribution to pension, supporting strong long-term retirement security
- Salary non-exempt structure — competitive salary with overtime eligibility included
- Opportunity to work on landmark, nationally recognized structural steel and infrastructure projects
- Exposure to industry-leading fabrication and engineering teams
- Collaborative, high-performance environment focused on quality and precision
- Strong career growth and advancement opportunities with ongoing training and development
- Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) credential or the desire to take the next step in your career!

My name is Kacie and I have been with Opti for a fun and eventful three months! I recently decided to make a career move after working with kids over the last ten years and I couldn’t be happier that I chose to start that adventure here. I grew up in Southeast Alaska and moved to Oregon in 2013. I love it here because I can be surrounded by nature all the time and the ocean is only a short drive away. I enjoy traveling and spending time with my partner and our chinchilla. They are the highlights of my life, and we spend most of our time together outside of work. Being at Opti has opened so many doors for me and I’m so excited to see what comes next. I have learned so much so quickly and gained beautiful friendships along the way too. I had never worked for a company that celebrated their employees the way that we do here, until now, and I can’t imagine working anywhere else!
