Position:
CNC Machine Operator – Structural Steel
Location: Clackamas, Oregon
Pay: $23.00 – $32.00 per hour (DOE)
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00am–3:30pm (Overtime may be required)
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site (40 hours/week guaranteed)

Our Client is a leading structural steel fabrication environment specializing in high-precision components for transmission and substation infrastructure. A fast-paced shop focused on safety, quality, integrity, and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do:
CNC Machine Setup & Operation

  • Configure and operate CNC machinery per work orders and production drawings.

  • Operate Angle Master, Plate Burner, and Beamline systems for cutting, drilling, punching, and marking.

  • Calibrate equipment, run test cuts, and make program edits to ensure accuracy.

Material Handling & Processing

  • Load and position raw steel (angles, beams, plates) using overhead cranes and forklifts.

  • Verify alignment and secure material for machining.

  • Unload and inspect completed parts for specification accuracy.

Quality Control & Inspection

  • Perform in-process and final inspections with calipers, micrometers, gauges, and blueprints.

  • Identify defects, wear issues, and programming errors.

  • Maintain accurate production logs and inspection records.

  • Troubleshoot issues such as warped plates, tolerance deviations, or inconsistent cuts.

Maintenance & Safety

  • Conduct routine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance.

  • Report mechanical issues and support scheduled repairs.

  • Follow all OSHA and internal safety protocols including PPE, LOTO, and machine guarding.

  • Coordinate with Millwright for repairs and complex troubleshooting.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work closely with foremen, programmers, and production staff to meet output targets.

  • Report equipment issues, material shortages, or quality concerns.

  • Complete all production documentation accurately.

  • Suggest process improvements to support efficiency and workflow.

What You Need to Have:

  • 2–3 years of CNC machine operation experience in structural steel fabrication.

  • Experience operating one or more of these machines: CNC Angle Master, Plate Burner, and Beamline

  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and fabrication specifications.

  • Proficiency with precision tools: calipers, micrometers, gauges, squares.

  • Strong understanding of steel grades, tolerances, and machining parameters.

  • OSHA-focused safety mindset.

  • Mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.

  • Ability to stand long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Basic math skills for calculating lengths, angles, and tolerances.

  • High school diploma or GED.

The Musts:

  • CNC structural steel experience

  • Quality-focused inspection skills

  • Ability to work efficiently in a high-noise fabrication shop

  • Strong communication and teamwork

Preferred:

  • SigmaNEST or similar CNC programming experience

  • Forklift certification

  • Overhead crane operation experience

  • Technical or vocational training
