Production Worker-
SUMMARY
This position is responsible for setting up, testing, adjusting manufacturing machinery and completing production of roofing materials.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The following reflects management’s definition of essential functions for this job but does not restrict the tasks that may be assigned. Management may assign or reassign duties and responsibilities to this job at any time due to reasonable accommodation or other reasons.
  • Measuring Material and Pattern Cutting
  • Sheet Metal work including shearing, punching, bending, grinding, chop saw, soldering, band saw, etc.
  • Plastic Membrane work including cutting, forming, and welding
  • Assisting with shipping and receiving as necessary
  • Safety Awareness of machinery and workplace
  • Physical Checks of Production & Quality Control
COMPETENCIES
Knowledge of:
  • Light industry production/fabrication work and related equipment.
  • Raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.

 

Skills and Abilities
  • Mechanically inclined with ability to read a tape measure
  • Can operate hand tools such as a grinder, drill, skill saw, and other common small tools
  • Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Performing routine maintenance
  • Controlling operations of equipment or systems.
  • Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Open communicator and encourages others to communicate openly.
  • Speaks and writes clearly and articulately without being overly verbose or talkative.
  • Flexibility/adaptability.  Adjusts quickly to changing priorities and conditions while coping effectively.
  • Good listener, must be able to understand and relate to plant managers, administrative staff, owner, as well as entire team.
  • Possesses a strong willingness to work hard and sometimes long hours to get the job done.

  1. Perform all duties in a safe manor
    1. Actively participates in weekly 10 minutes safety meetings.
    2. Does not receive written warning for safety violation
  2. Displays a positive can do attitude demonstrating enthusiasm for the job.
    1. Always looks busy and “productive”.  Purpose driven.
    2. Actively engaged in his or her work demonstrated by occasional ideas to improve productivity.
  3. Reliable and dependable and clean
    1. Does not have more than 1 tardy in a 3 month period
    2. Maintains a good attendance record
    3. Willingness to stay and work overtime when asked
    4. Always cleans work station after work is performed at the direction of the lead or foreman

 

QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Hold a valid driver’s license
  • Certified forklift operator preferred
  • Shop labor experience preferred

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Much of the work consists of conveying information verbally and in writing and working on a computer while sitting or standing for extended periods of time. While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to sit, stand, and walk; use finger, handle, or feel objects; reach with hands; talk and hear; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. The employee must have the ability to lift, carry, and/or move up to 50 pounds with regularity. Use of arms above the shoulder is sometimes required. The employee occasionally may need to transport himself or herself to another office location in mild to inclement weather. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS
  • The position will be working primarily indoors in a shop environment, but also requires the employee to be in the outdoors on a regular basis, thus encountering varying weather conditions and temperatures.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, but can be higher in the outdoors. Shop noise can be loud.
  • Product line involves lead based products that require special handling procedures. An annual blood test is required to monitor lead levels.
  • Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.
