Director of Finance

Location: Portland / Salem Metro

Pay: $100K

What You’ll Do:
As the Finance Director, you’ll lead the municipality's financial operations across general accounting, fund management, budgeting, payroll, utility billing, treasury, and compliance. This is a high-impact leadership role responsible for ensuring accuracy, transparency, and efficiency across all financial functions. You will oversee staff, maintain compliance with state and federal regulations, and support both strategic planning and daily operations.

What You Need to Have:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • Significant professional experience in governmental accounting or public sector finance
  • Knowledge of GAAP, GASB standards, and state/local budget laws
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with experience managing finance staff
  • Proficiency in financial systems and reporting tools


The Musts:
  • Deep understanding of fund accounting, cash allocation, budget development, and audit coordination
  • Experience managing payroll, utility billing, and accounts payable
  • Ability to interpret and apply state/federal regulations and manage compliance
  • Exceptional attention to detail, communication, and problem-solving abilities


Preferred:
  • CPA, CGFM, or related professional certification
  • Experience with municipal government finance or public utility financial operations
  • Familiarity with financial system implementations or upgrades
